Steps:
- Assess the Blade: Examine the blade for nicks, chips, or dullness. If there are significant nicks, you may need to start with a coarser sharpening stone.
- Secure the Blade: Use a honing guide to hold the blade at a consistent angle. Consult your plane’s manual for the correct angle (typically 25-35 degrees).
- Lubricate the Stone: If using a water stone, soak it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For oil stones, apply honing oil evenly.
