Baking Basics: Mastering the Muffin

Welcome to the world of baking! Today, we’re tackling a beginner-friendly classic: the muffin. These delightful treats are perfect for breakfasts, snacks, or even dessert. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional add-ins:

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, oil, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Don’t overmix!
  5. Gently fold in your desired add-ins, if using.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling them about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the muffins cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Pro Tips:

  • Don’t overmix the batter. Overmixing can develop the gluten in the flour, resulting in tough muffins.
  • Fill the muffin cups two-thirds full. This will give your muffins a nice dome shape.
